Julie Miller and Taylor Patskanick Present on Intergenerational Programming for GenHERation
by Adam Felts
AgeLab researchers Taylor Patskanick and Julie Miller were speakers at a virtual “Discovery Day” event hosted by GenHERation, a program connecting young women in high school and college with organizations that can help educate them about career paths, internships and networking opportunities. Hartford Funds, which partners with the MIT AgeLab on its research and outreach, is a sponsor of GenHERation, and helped to organize the event focused on careers in financial services.
Dr. Miller and Ms. Patskanick discussed the AgeLab’s partnership with Hartford Funds, the significance of an aging population and its real and potential effects on society, including finances, and the importance of bringing together the generations. Attendees were split into breakout groups to discuss intergenerational stereotyping – generalizations that younger people make about older people and vice versa – and to brainstorm ideas for mutually beneficial intergenerational programs.
